The Gokyo Valley Trek is one of the most scenic and less-crowded trekking routes in Nepal’s Everest (Khumbu) region. Gokyo Valley Trek Itinerary (10 Days)

Day 01: Fly Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840m) & Trek to Phakding (2,610m)

A thrilling 35-minute scenic flight brings you to Lukla. From here, begin your trek with a gentle walk along the Dudh Koshi River to Phakding. Overnight in a teahouse.

Flight: 35 minutes
Trek Duration: 3–4 hours


Day 02: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

Cross several suspension bridges, including the famous Hillary Bridge, and enter Sagarmatha National Park. The trail climbs steadily through pine forests to the vibrant Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar.

Trek Duration: 5–6 hours


Day 03: Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar

A vital acclimatization day. Explore Namche Bazaar, visit Khumjung village, or hike to the Everest View Hotel for your first glimpse of Everest. Light walking helps your body adjust to altitude.


Day 04: Trek to Dole (4,038m)

Leave the main Everest trail at Mong La and head toward the quieter Gokyo route. Walk through rhododendron forests and enjoy impressive views of surrounding peaks.

Trek Duration: 5–6 hours


Day 05: Trek to Machhermo (4,470m)

The trail continues gradually uphill through yak pastures and open ridgelines. Machhermo offers stunning views and a peaceful high-altitude atmosphere.

Trek Duration: 3–4 hours


Day 06: Trek to Gokyo (4,790m)

A beautiful hike past the first and second Gokyo Lakes leads you to the third lake and the village of Gokyo. The striking turquoise water and glacier backdrop make this day unforgettable.

Day 07: Climb Gokyo Ri (5,357m) & Explore Upper Lakes

Start early for the ascent of Gokyo Ri, one of the best viewpoints in the Everest region. Enjoy jaw-dropping views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. Spend the afternoon exploring the upper Gokyo Lakes.

Hike Duration: 2.5–3 hours (ascent)


Day 08: Trek to Dole

Descend gradually back to Dole, enjoying different perspectives of the same spectacular landscape.

Trek Duration: 5–6 hours


Day 09: Trek to Namche Bazaar

Retrace your steps down through forests and villages to Namche Bazaar, where you can enjoy a hot shower, bakeries, and local shops.

Trek Duration: 5–6 hours


Day 10: Trek to Lukla

Your final trekking day follows the Dudh Koshi River through Phakding and Monjo back to Lukla. Celebrate the completion of your trek with your guide and team.

Trek Duration: 6–7 hours
Overnight: Lukla
